Are these dangerous weapons?

I was picking up trash at Arlington & Palmetto, and it was almost dark.  I reached behind a telephone pole with my trash grabber, and grabbed something heavy. When I peeked behind the pole, I saw something metal, and I immediately thought I had found a gun.

I went across the street in case the person who hid these items behind the pole were watching, and I called the Akron Police.  They arrived pretty fast, and checked it out.  They told me I did not find a gun.  It was a big 10" knife and a billy club.

Regardless of what these items were, they didn't need to be next to the sidewalk where children could find them. Amazingly, the police didn't want them, so I took them with me.

I pick up trash to make our streets and sidewalks look nice.  But even more, I pick up trash to make our streets and sidewalks safer.  I have swept up 550 piles of broken glass so far, picked up dozens of needles, found hundreds of nails, screws, bolts, and dozens of knives.

If you want to help pick up trash, always use a trash grabber and wear cut-resistant gloves.  Always wash your hands when you get home.  And if you find a gun, immediately call the police, and let them deal with it.  It may be nothing, or it may be evidence from a crime.
