WHAT WOULD YOU THINK IF YOU SAW THIS?

Several people have asked me if I'm okay since I haven't added any posts to my blog all week.

I'm fine.  I'm just tired. Last weekend, I picked up almost 10,000 pieces of trash.  And I found out I had a pinched nerve in my neck from looking down when I pick up trash, so I'm taking a week off.  I'm way ahead in my numbers.  I hoped to pick up 32,000 pieces of trash in February, and I've picked up 28,787 so far, and the month is only half over, so I can take some time off and play with my dogs.

When I was cleaning up the entrance ramp from Wilbeth Road to Route 8, I saw this icky mess on the left side of the ramp.  It was on the road.  I wasn't sure if it was a dead animal or what.  I left it and kept cleaning.  It was too gross for me to pick up.

But after the rest of the ramp was all cleaned up, I went back to it.

It was a big gob of hair, and it filled my bucket!

I have no idea why anyone would think it was okay to throw a big pile of hair on the side of the road.  But it's not there now.

I think the same thing when I find a Depends along the side of the road.  Talk about distracted driving!  How does one squirm out of their underwear while they're driving in traffic?

Baby diapers, I can understand maybe getting those out of the car.  Baby diapers can smell pretty bad.  I remember when my boys were little.  I wondered how someone so cute could produce such stinky diapers! But I'd never wrap my Pampers into a ball and throw them on the ground.  Not even if I was having a really bad day.

That's why I count the pieces.  I'm so busy focusing on the next number that I don't really think about the things I'm picking up.  If I did, I probably wouldn't.

Tonight I drove down Waterloo Road, by the exit and entrance ramps, where I picked up trash for seven days.  There are a few pieces of new trash, and as soon as it warms up a little, I'll go back and pick up the new trash.  It should take me no longer than 15 minutes the second time.  The first time took 16 hours!

That's why what I'm doing is so important.  It really makes a difference, because it's easy for anyone to keep up with once it's cleaned.  I'm picking up trash in our city so others can help keep it clean.
