NOW I'M GOING DOWN THE OTHER SIDE OF THE MOUNTAIN!

I was so happy I reached my halfway goal of 500,000 pieces yesterday.  Now I feel like I'm going down the other side of the mountain.  If I want to pick up a million pieces before the end of summer, I have five months, and this is where everything I've done will come together.

I think people will want the happiness I've found picking up trash.  It's great exercise physically and mentally, and I transform every area I clean.  Trust me, it's time well spent.

This morning, I finished the west end of Wilbeth Road.  It didn't look that bad, but it was bad.  I picked up 3,955 pieces of trash, mostly glass, nails and car parts.  Dangerous stuff.

I felt like I was in the movie, "Nottinghill" today!  I had sunshine, rain and snow, and continuous wind.  This area is so pretty.  Now it looks great.

I was almost back to my car, and I saw this glazed donut on the side of the road.  Who throws away a perfectly good glazed donut?

My guess is, they bought it on impulse when they got gas, and decided to start their diet, so the donut had to go.

This is probably the only time I think littering is okay.  I know if I was starting a diet, and there was a glazed donut in the car, I'd have to get it out of the car FAST!

(Actually, I'm kidding.  There's never a good time to litter.)

And right after that, I found this thing. What in the world is this?

I didn't figure out what it was, but it sure doesn't look like it should be in the grass by the towpath.  It went in my trash bag.

Something else that was pretty funny happened today.  An Akron Police Officer pulled over, and when he saw it was me, he nodded and kept on going.

I'm hoping there will soon be a lot of people out picking up trash in Akron, and the police won't wonder what they're doing.

I found a bunch of water bottles and beer cans down this hill.  As I was walking back up to the sidewalk, I said to myself, "Wow, that car looks just line mine!"

It was mine.  I just didn't realize I was already done.

Now that I'm finished with Wilbeth Road, I'll clean Main Street.  Wilbeth is 3 miles long, from Arlington to 93, so 6 miles cleaning both sides.  Main Street is 4 miles long, from Waterloo to Thornton, so 8 miles both sides.  Both have freeway exit and entrance ramps.

I guessed it would take five days to clean Wilbeth, and I did it in three.  I'm guessing it will take seven days to clean Main Street.  Maybe I'll finish ahead of schedule on Main Street too.

Both of these roads are very busy, so a lot of people will see how beautiful Akron really is.

  1. I would never throw away a donut. Just the thought of one makes my mouth water. Susan.
