SO MUCH TRASH! AND SO MUCH WIND!
To reach my goal of one million pieces of trash, I have to pick up 3,000 pieces a day.
Today was a very good day. I picked up 3,350 pieces of trash in the worst wind! I would put papers in my bucket and watch them swirl around and then fly out. It became almost a game to see how long I could keep my trash in the bucket!
Look at this plastic bag!
A lot of the trash was up against the fence, making it possible to grab it, but it still took twice as long to pick up trash while battling the wind.
I drove my car to the next trashy spot, and along with all the normal garbage, I found 11 nails, a fluorescent light, and an office chair that I hauled to the dumpster.
Two homeless guys thought I was a maintenance man! How funny is that? They didn't bother me, and they left right away when they saw I wasn't a guy.
The grass grows tall here, and the trash has been hiding for years. Why doesn't anyone else care about this? It's right on Main Street before you get on the 76 freeway.
Speaking of "dents," a car must have ran into the light post on the street. The light is laying down beside the sidewalk, and there is debris from the car and the light everywhere! I'm guessing a thousand pieces to pick up.
As I drove away, I remembered a time when I helped my youngest son learn to ride a bike. I took him to the library parking lot when it was closed with his new bicycle. There was one light post in the middle of a great big empty parking lot. He peddled around the parking lot and hit the light post. I helped him get back on, and he rode around again and, of course, he ran right into the light post a second time! I was so frustrated and ready to give up! As I helped him get back on his bike, he looked up at me with his big brown eyes and said, "Mommy, this is the best day of my whole life!"
You guessed it. I didn't give up. We kept working at it until he learned to ride his bike.
Just like my son having the whole parking lot to practice, he kept hitting the one thing he could hit, so why does a car driving down Main Street have to hit a light post and make such a mess?
It’s Jaimi- what a cute memory! I’m so glad you got your goal met today- even in this crazy wind!
ReplyDeleteYes I just read it. The wind was awful so I am sure it was difficult to keep it contained. But as always, you keep up amd stay on track. Well done debbie
ReplyDeleteWhat a trooper you are! It wasn’t just very windy, but cold! Joyce
