ORANGE BAGS ALONG THE FREEWAY . . .
Fall is such a beautiful time of the year. I love doing what I can to make Akron look more beautiful by picking up trash. I would have reached 800,000 today if I had gone out, but I was tired. This week has been so hard.
So I loaded the dogs in the car, and off we went to Columbus to search for pretty fall colors.
Driving south on 71, I kept seeing these light orange trash bags. Lots and lots of them. Then I noticed the freeway was clean! No trash! Oh my goodness! Who's doing this? And why orange bags?
When I got home, I googled it, and I found out that the Ohio Department of Transportation picks up roughly 400,000 bags of trash along highways throughout the state each year, costing ODOT $4 million annually. With the Adopt-A-Highway Program, volunteer groups can adopt a two-mile section of the freeway, and it saves taxpayers $280,000. How great is that? I love it!
Another crew with a garbage truck goes along later and picks all the bags up. They are orange so they are easy to see. I had no idea. What a wonderful thing they are doing!
The leaves haven't changed as much in Columbus as they have in Akron, but I still managed to find some really pretty colors.
These red trees really stuck out.
I tell Henry & Stella they're getting their pictures taken, and they know the drill.
They are such good dogs.
I'll be out tomorrow, all refreshed, and ready to pick up candy wrappers. (Tonight was Trick-Or-Treat in Akron.)
Oh boy, I can hardly wait.
It’s great there are more people picking up trash! 🎃
ReplyDeleteTerrific pup pics!
ReplyDeleteLovely pictures of your dogs and trees! You needed a day like this to refresh yourself! Joyce
ReplyDeleteIt’s so nice to hear Columbus had the organization to address the trash issue. Even driving along the highway people enjoy it more when there isn’t a bunch of trash littering up the roads and areas around it. And what great dogs to sit for such pretty pictures!
