I WONDER IF THESE GUYS WILL LIVE LONG ENOUGH TO SEE THE NEW YEAR?
Today was such a great day to pick up trash. I have been wanting to clean Waterloo & Firestone, where the Walgreen Drug Store is. So today, I headed over there.
I was cleaning on the Waterloo side, when I heard daredevil motorcycles. They make a unique sound when they are on one wheel. I didn't look up. I'm always afraid they will put on a show for me, and lose control, so I never look when I hear them coming.
They all stopped at the red light, and I got my phone ready to take a picture, knowing they would take off and pop into wheelies. And sure enough . . . But the thing I didn't realize at the time, they went through the red light.
Why don't these boys pick up trash? If they want people staring at them, and don't have anything to do, they could certainly help me pick up trash.
There were lots of cars in the drive through, getting prescriptions filled, and they stared at me like I was an alien.
I wonder how many people will pick up trash after watching me do it so easily. I hope lots of people will at least think about it.
Before I left to come home, I stopped and looked back at the area I just cleaned. Wow.
When I was at the corner of Waterloo & Firestone, there was a man waiting for the Walk sign. I said hello to him, and he look down, completely shocked that I was picking up trash.
Not really that I was picking up trash, but that there was trash on the ground.
Isn't it funny how many people just don't notice it? Until my dog got cut on a piece of glass, I was one of those people. "Not my problem," I would say. "Where are we going for dinner?" I would ask my son. I just didn't notice.
I sure notice now. 2025 is going to be a great year. I'm going to reach my one-million-piece goal, and I'm going to figure out a way to really make a difference.
Litter is bad. It can make us sick. It can hurt us. It's unsightly, and makes any area look like a dump. But it's so much more than that. Litter means we don't care, and the thing is, we do care. We care about our neighbors and where we live. We just don't act like it.
You're right. I care too!
ReplyDeleteHa I couldn't imagine them picking up a piece of trash. Probably then who threw the litter down in the first place. Id love to see more people helping though.
ReplyDeleteI found an empty box and proceeded to pick up 17 pieces today.
ReplyDeleteGood article Debbie. I guess we become oblivious to trash
ReplyDeleteI’m glad the motorcyclists didn’t get hurt!
ReplyDeleteGlad you are getting so close to your goal!
