I SMASHED THE ALUMINUM CANS!!!

Oh my goodness!  This is so cool!

One of my good friends called me and said she had four bags of cans for me to pick up to recycle.  I drove over to her house, and she had the bags in front of her garage.  I picked up the first bag, and almost threw it over my head!  I know how much a bag of cans usually weighs.

They were not smashed!

It was so cold out, and ice covered my driveway.  No way was I going to be able to smash all those cans until it warmed up.

Well, it warmed up, so I decided to take Henry & Stella for a walk around the block.  The trash that had been hiding under the snow was so disgusting!  I remembered the olden days when there was trash around the sidewalk, making it was dangerous to walk my dogs.

So I took them back home, and grabbed my trash cart, trash grabber, bucket and off I went to clean around my block.

I picked up 230 pieces of trash around the block.  It wasn't nearly as bad as I thought. Trying to keep the dogs from chowing down on a McDonald's Sausage, Egg & Cheese Biscuit wrapper was almost impossible.  And the water bottles?  Henry thinks they are dog toys.

Now it's all clean, and I can walk the dogs a little easier tomorrow.

So I got the bags of aluminum cans out, There was a corner of my driveway with no ice on it.

I dumped them all out and started smashing with my boot.

This was one of the hardest things I've ever done, because it was getting dark, and I wanted to finish.  I worked up a sweat!

I grabbed a can with my trash grabber, set it in place, pushed one end of the can in with my foot, then pushed the other end in with my foot.  I was doing the aluminum can smash dance!  (Wonder if it'll catch on?)

So why did I need to smash all those cans?  Why didn't I just leave them the way they were?

Because those four bags of unsmashed cans became two small bags of smashed cans.

If I filled the back of my car with unsmashed cans, I would be lucky to make $5.  And I'd be going every week.

The last time I filled by car, I made $60, which was enough money to buy two cartons of trash bags.

Next time though, I'll take it a little slower and only smash a hundred at a time.

I'm so excited that the snow is melting, and I can see the ground again!  That means Spring is just around the corner, and I'll be working on my one-million-piece goal again!

  1. The aluminum smash dance! Haha! Maybe you will start a tictok trend. And if you do, you can promote picking up trash!
