I'M EXCITED TO PICK UP TRASH AGAIN!

I'm excited to pick up trash again!

I found out last night that there's an organization in Akron that gets paid to pick up trash.  So I don't have to pick up trash in Akron anymore.  I'm going to move my focus to Barberton and Wadsworth.

Tonight I headed to Lake Anna in Barberton, because somebody on "Barberton Neighbors Facebook Page" was complaining about all the cigarette butts around Lake Anna.

I picked up 1,255 pieces of trash tonight, and I'd guess 1,000 of those pieces were cigarette butts.  The person complaining was so right!

Well, there aren't any cigarette butts around Lake Anna now.  I spent one hour walking around the lake close to the water, and another hour and a half walking around the lake close to the street.  It was amazing!

Lake Anna is such an interesting place.  What do you think of this?

There's big sign posted that says, "This park is tobacco free."

Really?  I just picked up a thousand cigarette butts!

And it says, "No pets?"

And there were dogs everywhere, some not even on leashes.

This little cutie pie walked with me for a while.  His owner was coming along, and he said, "There's so much trash!  It's disgusting!"  I said, "You need to come to Akron."

I picked up trash for 2 1/2 hours and only picked up 1,255 pieces.  I would have picked up two or three times that much in Akron.

One of my friends asked me if I'm still going to pick up my second million by summer.  I said, "No.  I could only pick up that much in Akron."

Even though most of what I picked up was cigarette butts, I did find some nasty litter.

I found a plastic bag that had poop in it, not tied shut.  Ick!  It was on the grass by the sidewalk.

I didn't count them, but I'm guessing there are at least 20 trash cans around the lake.  Don't tell me that person couldn't find a trash can!

I saw a cannon I've never seen before.

It makes a beautiful picture.

And seagulls were screaming for something.  This one was cocking its head and asking me for something.  When I asked it what it wanted, it flew away.

I guess I don't speak seagull very well.

And I saw this interesting Harley.  Wouldn't it be fun to ride around the lake on that?  The road is a continuous circle.
The Mum Fest is in a few weeks, and the mums are about ready to start blooming.  All the flowers here are so lovely.

You can travel far and wide.  You won't find a place any prettier than Lake Anna, especially when there's no trash.

There's no trash now.

I was almost back to my car and this woman came running up to me and said, "I want a job like yours!"  I said, "No, you don't.  You don't get paid."  She said, "That's exactly what I want!  I just moved here from Mississippi, and I want to make some new friends."

So I told her about the Main Street Barberton Cleanup on the second Saturday of each month.  I got her phone number, and I'm pretty sure she will show up.

I love making new friends!  I'm going to give her a trash grabber and bucket the next time I see her so she can start picking up trash too.  It's a great way to meet people, especially here.

  3. Finally, you are picking up trash in a town that appreciates you! Lake Anna is so beautiful and thanks to you it will be trash free! Barberton has a good cleanup crew that works very hard also. I don’t see much trash there, but people still litter and it needs to be picked up. Sounds like you are back to enjoying picking up trash again! 😊 Joyce

  4. Debbie you are a rockstar! You never quit! Such determination to be the change we all want to see. You are an inspiration for everyone to get out there and do what needs to be done. Making a difference one piece of trash at a time. Unbelievable. If the world had even a handful of people like you there would be no trash anywhere. Imagine that! Love reading your stories and the joy that pours through them. Thank you for all that you do!
