Trash hiding in the grass

When picking up trash, you never know what you'll find.  There's a lot of trash you can't really see from the street or sidewalk.  It all needs picked up.

For a while, I used a foldable trash grabber.  But sometimes when I needed to dig something out of the grass, it would fold up.  Very annoying.  I don't use the foldable ones anymore.

I saw this . . . 

And it was this!  How funny is that?  Some kind of brush.  I never would have guessed all that was hiding under the grass.

And I knew something pretty big was hiding here. 

Look what it was!  I don't really know what it was, but it was a surprise to pull all that out of the grass!  It's like catching a fish!

I count the pieces of trash as I pick them up.  It's something I started doing when I told people I picked up hundreds of pieces of trash a day.  I thought I better make sure I was not exaggerating.  So the first time I counted, I picked up 993 pieces of trash and that included a Walmart bag and a hub cap!  Each 30 gallon bag held over 1,000 pieces.  

Now I'm using a 45 gallon bag so I can get even more in my trash cart.  I've gotten as many as 2,500 pieces in one bag, but then I can't lift it, so I try not to stuff it so full.

If you pick up trash, try counting the pieces.  It will take your mind off the gross stuff you're picking up, and helps you pick up a lot more than you would if you weren't focused on the numbers!
