EXIT RAMP FROM ROUTE 8 TO WATERLOO ROAD
As soon as I got off work tonight, I headed back over to the exit ramp from Route 8 to Waterloo Road. Here is the picture I posted yesterday.
I cleaned the sidewalk and the field before I ventured down into this drain hole. Ick! The hill was slippery, and the people in the cars waiting at the light were watching me.
I could feel them watching me!
I just stayed focused on not falling down, picking up one piece at a time, filling my bucket, then climbing the hill to dump it in my trash bag.
There were two Keep Akron Beautiful bags in this mess. Sometimes, Keep Akron Beautiful drops off a few bags for the panhandlers, and I think they offer to pay them if they pick up the trash around their corner. (Obviously, they didn't like that idea. That would be too much like a job.)
I only picked up 901 pieces, but it was hard. There were so many plastic bags tangled in the trees, buried in the dirt. I found a few glass bottles, but they were not broken. Yay!
I managed to get it all back to my car without tipping over, and threw everything in the dumpster at the park.
I still have the ramp, under the bridge and the entrance ramp to clean, so I'm far from done with this area. I'll be back here tomorrow.
This morning, I took my dogs for a walk, and for a change, we went a different way. I saw new trash. So after the dogs were finished, I went back and picked up 1,295 pieces of trash on Aster, the main street running through Firestone Park.
I stopped by "A Walk In The Park Cafe," and met the owner. Later, I stopped by the Firestone Park Branch Library and left a message for Sylvia, the Branch Manager, that I cleaned all around the library. She will be happy about that. She's a lovely person.
As I drove home on Aster tonight, even though it was almost dark, I couldn't believe how nice it looks. It's sparkling clean!
I think a street with no litter looks loved.
I love your comment about streets being loved.
ReplyDeleteThat was a lot of trash up on Waterloo. Unbelievable!
ReplyDelete🤗❤️ you are a gem!
ReplyDeleteI agree with all these comments!
ReplyDeleteIt’s so amazing that the before pictures all I notice is trash. I rarely could even describe the scene to you if asked. In my minds eye it’s just trash. In the after pictures I see the nature, the buildings, the scenery. Trash is so detracting and distracting from the beauty of nature and buildings. When you pick up trash you are giving back the beauty of that street, building, nature, and area!
