AM I DETERMINED OR NUTS?
After I cleaned up the fluff, I looked ahead and realized I was half done! Yay! If it went well, I would be done with Waterloo Road today. As long as new messes didn't come up.
Shortly after having that positive thought, I saw this! Eight tires tangled in the in the briars, right on the water's edge! I stopped for a second, and then dove in. Had I thought about it, I wouldn't have done it. So am I determined to clean up Akron? Or am I nuts? I'm not sure.
Tires cannot be thrown in the trash, or taken to the dump. The rubber does not break down. They can be recycled and made into other products, such as playgrounds, but not new tires.
It's illegal to dump tires like this. They obstruct the natural beauty and water collects in them, creating a breeding ground for mosquitos.
I pulled each tire out of the briars and hauled them up the hill. They were full of super stinky water so they were very heavy.
I threw each one on the ground to try and get some of the water out before I stacked them up beside the road.
Did you know tires are a health hazard? Tires leach petrochemicals, rubber compounds and all kinds of heavy metals (including mercury and lead) into the surrounding soil and ground water.
That's why I crawled around in the briars and worked so hard pulling them up to the road. That's why Keep Akron Beautiful picks them up.
Shame on the lazy people who throw tires out like this.
It’s Jaimi- you must be so strong! Seriously- some people say they can bench press lots of weights- you can say how many tires you move around!
