BLUE HERON NESTS ON WATERLOO ROAD
Here is a picture of what I had to pull my trash cart through. There wasn't room to walk on the road.
Picking up all the fluff was very hard on my back.
Pulling all the tires out of the briars was worse.
Navigating through the sticks and stumps was miserable.
After three hours of this, I was in pain, and I needed to find a place to sit down.
Remember all the nests I showed you last week? I watched a blue heron fly by. They are so beautiful in flight. Their long neck has a bend in it, and their feet are straight back behind them.
Well, I saw one land in one of those nests! Then I looked closer. If you can zoom in on this picture, you will see almost every nest has a blue heron in it! It was incredible to see!
I sat there and watched them take off and land like little airplanes, and that energized me. This area is amazing! Why was it covered in trash? We have all these beautiful blue herons, and this should be a place where people driving by can pull over to enjoy watching them.
I finished Waterloo Road! Hurray!
I was right here picking up the last of the trash, and two teenage boys walked by with skateboards. There was no eye contact. They made an effort to make sure there was no eye contact with me. When they were right beside me, I said, "Have a really nice day!"
So they didn't look at me or say anything, and about 30 seconds later, I heard one yell something back at me. I turned around, and one of the boys said, "Thank you for what you're doing. It looks great!"
I almost cried! Even teenage boys with skateboards noticed! This was the hardest area I've cleaned yet, and so worth it. People driving by really appreciate it.
It’s Jaimi- it touched my heart to hear that one boy told you thanks! People give teenagers- especially boys- a bad rap saying they don’t care about anything. Not true! These boys care about a clean environment and maybe they will even think about helping clean up areas near them!
ReplyDeleteWhat you do gives me faith in people, starting with YOU.
ReplyDeleteYou make a difference in the areas you clean. What it appears to me is you make a difference in people.
That is heartwarming and encouraging.
Keep up your faith in your beliefs...you make a difference!
