BUS STOPS ARE CHALLENGING!

My goal is to pick up one million pieces of trash by the end of summer, right?

What was I thinking?  I'm not sure I can do it.  I'm getting so tired.  Why didn't I make it  a half million?  I'd almost be there.  And then I wouldn't feel so much pressure.

I need to pick up 3,000 pieces of trash a day to reach my goal, so I went out in the rain Saturday morning.  I can't miss a day.  I knew where I wanted to go, but first, I drove to the Post Office to mail a birthday card to my grandson.

There was one spot of trash between Giant Eagle and the Post Office that has obviously been overlooked.  The rest of the Post Office property is clean.

So I got that all cleaned up . . . 1,048 pieces of trash here and the bus stop.  There's always so much more than it looks, especially when the trash is tangled in bushes and weeds.

I cleaned all along the fence between the Post Office and Giant Eagle.  I doubt that anybody will notice.  Now it looks like the rest of the post office property.

Maybe nobody but me will notice, but that's okay.  I get so much enjoyment out of seeing an area transformed from trashy to clean.

After I finished with that, I was soaking wet, but I wanted to finish the bus stop that was right beside this area.

How can people drive by and do nothing about this?  Doesn't Giant Eagle care?  Don't the people riding the bus care?  What about all the new restaurants popping up in this area?  Their properties are spotless.  Don't they care?

I started taking all the trash out of the shopping carts, and then I lined them up out of the way.  A Giant Eagle employee saw me and came running over to get theirs.

Do you see the broken jar of spaghetti sauce in front of the bench?  I've never swept up spaghetti sauce with broken glass all through it before.  I had spaghetti sauce all over myself!  I didn't mean to sweep it up with my coat, but that's what it looked like.

Doesn't it look nice now?  I asked the city again for a trash can here.  I think a trash can would really help.  And a container for cigarette butts would be really nice too.  I don't ride the bus, but I'm guessing people aren't allowed to smoke on the bus, so they throw cigarette butts on the ground before they get on.

After this area was done, I went across the street and cleaned around the Dollar Store.  I picked up 3,654 pieces, so I was feeling much better about my numbers.

I came home, washed all my clothes, including my coat and shoes, ate lunch, played with my dogs, took a nap, and went back out.  I cleaned the exit and entrance ramps again.

My total for Saturday was 5,390 pieces.  If I can do that every weekend, I will reach my goal ahead of schedule!  Wouldn't that be great?
