WAIT UNTIL YOU HEAR WHAT HAPPENED AT BROWN & COLE!
I walk Henry & Stella around the block twice a day, and I pick up new trash. I don't usually take a bag, because there's only a couple of pieces. It's so easy to pick up new trash when I walk the dogs, if I do it every day.
Yesterday, there was a lot! The dogs actually stop when they see a piece of trash. They know I'm going to pick it up now.
Tonight, I went back to the area I was at yesterday, but south of Lover's Lane. I parked east of Cole, a neighborhood that is sparkling clean! How can there be so much trash one street over?
I saw a field yesterday at Brown & Cole that had a huge mess to clean up, another dump site. I didn't plan on picking it all up, just the trash six feet from the sidewalk.
But when I got there, it was all cleaned up! What happened? I saw a big construction bag, like the ones I use. Was I losing my mind? Did I already clean this area and not remember?
So I walked across the street. They were lovely. She cleaned all that with no trash grabber and no gloves! Ick!!! I told her I would bring back gloves, a trash grabber and a bucket. She shook my hand three times.
I'm getting help! Yay!!!
The bag weighs about a hundred pounds! I sent an email to Keep Akron Beautiful and asked them to come pick it up. I feel bad that it's so heavy. I know beggars can't be choosers, but I wish she would have used a couple of bags. I could barely drag it to the sidewalk.
I picked up 2,506 pieces tonight. I'm at 491,707, almost to a half million! I've picked up 155 nails, bolts and screws! And swept up 714 piles of broken glass.
Please let it rain tomorrow! I'm so tired!
9,000 to go. Sounds like a lot to me, but to you it's just a drop in the bucket. Good job!
ReplyDeleteYou are starting to make a difference! I never used to notice trash but now I see it!!! I live on a country road and now once a week I take a walk and pick up the trash. It’s is amazing how much is actually in the ditches and weeds! Thanks Debbie for making me aware!!! Joyce
