BUS STOP ON MAIN STREET WAS A MESS!
So I got home from the Great American Cleanup in Cleveland, and I had my work cut out for me. I only picked up 672 pieces of trash in Cleveland, because there wasn't much to pick up. I needed 3,000 pieces to reach my weekly goal of 21,000. I took the dogs to the park and then headed for the entrance ramp at Main & 76.
There was a bunch of trash at the Dollar General on Main, so I stopped there and picked up 981 pieces. I think that's the most I ever picked up there.
Then I continued north on Main, and I saw this big metal thing. Can you imagine hitting that with your car? I whipped into the parking lot to throw that away and pick up around the bushes. I had cleaned this area last summer. Apparently that was the last time anybody cleaned it.
I picked up 1,589 pieces of trash in this big field, on the sidewalks and in the bushes. It took three hours!
The bushes have long needle-like things on every branch! They grab any trash that blows by, and they also grab my gloves, my coat, my pants.
I can understand why nobody would want to pick up the trash here. I don't want to pick up the trash here.
But it's all clean now.
While I was pulling stuff out of the bushes, I saw a woman walking her dog. I was going to tell her to be careful, because there's lots of glass, but she disappeared before I could talk to her.
I turned the corner to clean the other side of the bushes, and I saw all this glass! Brown and clear, so there were at least two bottles smashed right on the sidewalk where people are walking their dogs!
Why do people do that?
Same reason they stick beer cans deep in the briars! Nobody could have removed this beer can without a trash grabber.
I'm so happy I picked up 21,635 pieces this week! I barely reached my 21,000 goal, but I did. That's three weeks in a row I surpassed my 21,000 piece goal.
It will get easier, right?
