TODAY WAS A CRAZY TRASH DAY! OH MY GOODNESS!

I got up this morning and decided to try something different.  Instead of two hours and pain, I thought maybe I'd try two one hour sessions and see if that helped.

So off I went to Lover's Lane, and started picking up trash for my first one hour session.  I had only picked up 128 pieces when my trash grabber broke!  Oh no!

I usually have an extra one in the car, but I must have given it away to someone.  So I loaded all my stuff back in the car and raced home.

My friend, Tom called and said, "What's going on with you?  You're all over the place with your moods!"  I told him that's how it is with trash.  There are good days and there are bad days.

He said, "I drove by the area you worked so hard to clean, Waterloo Road, and they mowed the tall grass down.  It looks like you never cleaned it.  Maybe we can team up and clean it together one day?"

It's fun to pick up trash with Tom, but my numbers aren't very good.  I talk too much.

So when I got home, I grabbed two new trash grabbers., (That's kinda funny!)   Then I took some Ibuprofen and headed over to Waterloo Road.

I took out my heavy duty construction bag and put a roll of my clear bags in my trash cart.  I use these when I want Keep Akron Beautiful to pick the bags up.  They aren't as expensive.

One of the first things I picked up was this piece of trim, about 12 feet long!  I was able to roll it up and get it to fit in my bag.

The city did a nice job mowing.  The last time I cleaned this area, it took me four days, and it was mowed with stumps about 4" high, just high enough to constantly trip over.  This time, it was a buzz cut!  Very nice.

I got all the way down the south side of the road, crossed the street and started back to my car.

So far, I had only filled up two trash bags.

It was so hot, and I was so tired, that when I found this little bit of shade from a telephone pole, I took advantage of it!

I plopped down in the grass and took a break.  That really felt good.

I got the north side of the road all cleaned too.  I picked up 3,113 pieces of trash, all new, so it was easy to pick up.

Tom says it doesn't do any good.  But I totally disagree.  It's unfortunate that people continue to throw their bottles and cans out right here.  It's such a beautiful area with all the Blue Heron nests, but had I not cleaned it before, I wouldn't have been able to clean it all in one day.

I planned on asking Keep Akron Beautiful to pick up the bags, but there were only three, so I drove back and picked them up.  I took them to the Dollar Store at Main & Wilbeth, and since their dumpster was empty, I threw them in.

Then I picked up 200 pieces of trash in their parking lot before my bucket cracked and broke!  Goodness!  I was really hard on supplies today.  Lucky I have a hundred more buckets at my house!

Today was such a great day!  I didn't do what I planned, but I ended up doing so much more.  Won't Tom be surprised when he drives down Waterloo Road?

  1. Be sure to take a picture of your millionth piece of trash okay? Let's bet on what it'll be. I'm guessing a bottle.

  2. I'm thinking Tom just wants to make you question yourself. You feel good when you accomplish something and he wants to make you feel like it's not worth it.

  3. Keep on going. You are doing great.
