DAY FOUR ON HUDSON RUN WENT REALLY WELL . . .

Day Four on Hudson Run went really well.  Eight hours and 12 bags of trash, and I'm getting close to being done.

I hoped for rain last night so I could take a day off.  Well I got my wish.  It rained almost the whole time I was picking up trash!

The hardest parts of Hudson Run are both ends where people throw trash out of their cars when stopped.  I'm getting close to the east end by Second Street, and it's REALLY TOUGH.

I found this McDonald's bag filled with cigarette butts on the side of the road!  Why?  Who does something like this?  Do they think it's less bad to litter one bag of trash instead of a bag and 50 cigarette butts?  Ick!

So I parked my car where it would be safe, and crossed the road.  I discovered that I could straddle the guard rail and stay safe, and keep my balance.  Falling into the lake would not be good!

I was able to pick up all the trash on both sides of the guard rail nice and slow.

And when I got to this part, I found lots and lots of bottles and food containers.  They were easy to pick up.  No cars here.
I picked up 1,419 pieces of trash today, most of it in this area where it was safe.  I was so happy about that.

What a difference!  Now this road doesn't look so scary.

So when my timer went off, I crossed the road, and the other side was a different story.  So little room!  And on a curve with a hill no less!

I hid behind this warning sign to pick up all the trash here.  Lots of glass bottles, styrofoam cups and a bag of something really heavy.  I think it was cement.

I got it all cleaned up, and I hope there are no more areas as scary as this one.

The speed limit here is 25 mph, and cars were going very slow, thank goodness.

One more day, maybe, and I will have cleaned all of Hudson Run.

The trash I'm picking up is a little bit of new stuff and a lot of old stuff.  That tells me that there will be more litter, but not a lot.

That's what I'm hoping anyway.   I need to get back to Akron and continue where I left off.  Main Street by the I-76 freeway looks really bad.

  1. I thought that McDonalds bag was a pile of leaves. Ha! It’s crazy what people do to put all their trash together and the still toss it out the window!
I’m glad you were safe. Some of those areas look so close to the road!
