I PICKED UP 5,516 PIECES OF TRASH TODAY!!!
I haven't posted any stories to my blog since last Sunday. That's because I haven't picked up any trash.
I've been working too hard, both at my job and picking up trash, and I BURNED OUT.
So yesterday, I drove to Columbus to have fun with my son, and after that, I went to the casino. I haven't been to the casino for a very long time, but I needed to play. You know what they say about all work and no play, right?
I got up this morning with so much energy! I made a list of places I wanted to clean today. I didn't clean them all, but I cleaned 12 areas! That's a very big day!
I saw accident debris in somebody's front yard at Redwood & Wilbeth for weeks!!! So that was my first stop.
I can see why nobody wanted to clean this mess up. There was a windshield, a front bumper and a side mirror and pieces of a car scattered for a block!
The family who lived right next door popped out to thank me. I said, "I bet you were tired of looking at that! I know I was." He replied, "It was an eyesore."
Why am I the only one who will take on a mess like this? I feel bad I let it go as long as I did. I guess I thought the City of Akron might clean it up. Maybe if someone had reported it, they would have.
Thank goodness my car wasn't far away. What a sight I must have been to all the people peeking out their windows! And all the cars driving by.
I went straight to my favorite dumpster and got rid of all that stuff so I could clean the next area.Every time I finished an area, I turned around to an even bigger mess!
Look at these lovely spring flowers? I love daffodils, and apparently the trash loves them too!
This is all new trash, so it was easy to pick up.
Welcome spring!
I wore myself out picking up trash for three hours, so I went home to have lunch and play with the dogs. Then I loaded up the trash cart and off I went again for three more hours!I noticed the exit and entrance ramps from Route 8 to Wilbeth Road southbound were messy again.
I just cleaned the exit ramp a week ago, but I want to try to keep it clean.
This was the biggest mess I think I've ever cleaned up. The plastic bags were tangled in the branches. I didn't think I'd get it all done in one day, but I did.
The Rite Aid one street over closed. I'm guessing Walgreen's is so busy now that they can't pick up their trash. That's the only thing I can think of. It was never like this before. The worst part was the drive thru, both sides. I got it all cleaned up, and I'm hoping people who are waiting for their prescriptions dispose of their trash the right way now.
When an area is all trashed up, what's one more piece? I'm sure that's what people were thinking as they sat in their cars with nothing to do. "Might as well clean out my car! Absolutely nobody will notice a few more pieces here!"
Then I drove back to the dumpster that I told you about on March 14. Remember that? It was overflowing with trash bags, and an old man asked me to help. I sent an email to my councilman and copied the City of Akron, and guess what? Look at this!
Not only did they empty it, but they cleaned around it too.
Hallelujah!
Life is So Good!
