PICKING UP TRASH TONIGHT WAS AS GOOD AS IT GETS!

I was on the front page of the Barberton Gazette today!  How great is that?  THANK YOU, EMILY!

I sent this picture of my "crushed" cans to all my text friends, but I like this picture so much, I wanted it on my blog.

A friend is saving cans for me, but she can't crush them.  Taking bags of cans to the recycle place is so hard, I don't want to do it very often.

I use the money I make from recycling the cans to buy supplies, so it's worth taking the time to recycle them.  (Plus, my son told me I have to!)

I pick up a lot of cans each day, but I crush them as I pick them up, not hundreds at one time.

(It's not fun.)

I had two places I could clean tonight.

The first place was the underpass on Archwood at Route 8.  I saw it when I picked up the bags of cans last night.

The other spot was the exit ramp from Route 8 to Wilbeth Road.  I saw it when I came home from work this afternoon.

I decided to start with the exit ramp from Route 8, and see how much time I had left.

I was a little worried, because there isn't much room for a human.  And I didn't want to scare drivers.

I figured out that I could get on the inside of the guard rail and reach over with my trash grabber to pick up trash!

I was safe and didn't have to watch out for traffic!  How cool is that?

I got it all cleaned up in one hour! Even all the trash on the outside of the guardrail!

Do you know how you feel when your puppy goes potty outside for the first time?  That's how I feel when I clean an area as nasty as this exit ramp!  I look back and say, "Wow! I did that!"

Even after two years, I still get that thrill.

I picked up 845 pieces and filled three trash bags.  I'll ask Keep Akron Beautiful to come pick them up.  It was too much for me to carry back to my car.

So I thought I might call it a night.  I've been going full speed ahead for six days.  But I really wanted to at least start the underpass on Archwood.  I wouldn't get it done, but I could at least get started.

So I headed over there.

People were walking down the sidewalk, and their feet were crunching trash and broken glass as they walked along.

How can the people who live in this neighborhood not care about that?  It's like strolling through the city dump!

There's no way you could walk a dog here.

I got it all cleaned up!!!   Both sides!

I picked up 928 more pieces and filled two trash bags!

It doesn't get any better than tonight!
