PREPARE TO BE AMAZED!!! (I'M AMAZED!!!)

After picking up trash in the ice and snow last Friday, then driving 20 hours to Tennessee and back on the weekend, then picking up trash every night this week, I was very tired.  I wanted to go out, but I wanted to do something easy tonight.

So I started on Wilbeth Road, rolled four truck tires to the dumpster, and cleaned all the trash out of the briars, then picked up all the beer cans from the football field, then crossed the street and cleaned all the trash at Inman & Wilbeth.  I headed to the dumpster there.  Yikes!  It was completely packed!

An old man sitting on his balcony said, "Can you please help us get that dumpster emptied?  It's been like that for a month!"

Seriously?  A month?  Why?  Did the owner not pay the bill?  Did Kimble forget these poor people?  I told him I would report it to the City of Akron.

I finished cleaning this corner and hoped I could make it to the next dumpster on Wilbeth.

The sun was setting, and the area I just cleaned looked so fresh and new!  I love looking back.

So I made it to the next dumpster, and it was not overflowing.  No, it looked like all the trash inside had been dumped on the ground!  What a mess!  And more tires?  What's with all the tires?

People driving into the apartment complex were stopping to see what I was doing.  Didn't anybody notice all this garbage?  Don't they know they have the welcome mat out for bugs, mice, rats and skunks?  Wow!  Am I the only one who can pick stuff up?

I picked up all the trash, stacked up all the tires and filled my recycle bin.  What a huge difference!

I went back to the sidewalk and cleaned in front of the building.  There were beer bottles, pizza boxes, a helium balloon that decided to land there.

I got that all cleaned up, crossed the road and headed for the car.

I found more beer cans and milk jugs, and got all that cleaned up.  I filled my trash bag four times and picked up 2,576 pieces tonight, when I was dead tired!

Walking back to my car took everything I had, and then I heard a ruckus.  I looked across the street, and there was an old man standing on his second floor balcony waving his arms wildly.  With cars driving by, he yelled across Wilbeth Road, "BLESS YOU MA'AM!"

Seriously?  The people who live in this area don't miss a thing.  They all see me picking up trash, making their neighborhood beautiful, and it means so much to them.  I wish more people would help. Maybe this is the year they will.

  1. If they'd pick up a few pieces it would make a difference. They see you, thank you, but they could help.
