I FOUND TRASH TODAY IN THE RAIN!
Yesterday, I discovered all my regular areas are staying clean, so I went out this morning searching for areas that haven't been touched.
I found one, at South & Brown. Actually, the whole street needs cleaned, but I started at the intersection. That's usually where people throw trash out of their car waiting for the light to change.
This will blow you away! Wow!
Look at the northeast corner. Looks pretty good, right? No, there's a lot of trash hidden in the grass.
I pulled it all out and . . .
It was raining the whole time, and that was really okay. There were so many potato chip bags, and they blow in the wind when they're not wet.
I crossed the street and started working on the southwest corner.
There's a church just down the street, and they had some kind of event today. Motorcycles kept coming by, and that was pretty fun.
Look at all this garbage at the end of a driveway. Ick!
It looked like a pile of dirt, gravel and trash. I had to walk back to the dumpster to empty my trash bag before I could attempt this mess.
I pulled all the trash out of the dirt and left it this way. Now it just looks like a pile of dirt instead of a mysterious mess. While I was working on this, I saw a woman in a scooter with a tiny infant in her arms buzzing by me several times. Keep in mind, it's raining. Also keep in mind how hard it would be to navigate a scooter with a tiny baby over glass and garbage.
I crossed the street and started working on the last corner, and I'll have to go back. My timer went off and there's more to pick up.
The woman in the scooter came by again, and she said, "You're doing an amazing thing here. Thank you so much!"
That touched my heart. It made me want to come back and continue cleaning down this forgotten street. People care.
I crossed Brown Street and put the big roll of whatever this is into my trash cart. Then I crossed South Street to get back to my car and the dumpster. I must be a site walking down the sidewalk! (So glad that big roll didn't fall off in the intersection!)I picked up 1,703 pieces of trash in the rain today, and I found out my Carhart coat is not waterproof. I was soaked to the skin. As soon as I got home, everything went into the washer . . . coat, shoes, gloves. It sure feels good to be warm and dry.
It is really impactuful when you show the grass the way you found it versus after you pulled all the trash out of it. Looks like a dump!
ReplyDeleteWhat a mess. It’s hard to believe people are such slobs
