I MADE A DEER FRIEND TONIGHT!

I knew it was going to rain tonight, but I don't want to take any days off.  I thought I'd take my chances.

So I headed back to Arlington, where I've been the last three days.  There's no trash to pick up now.  I drove all the way to the downtown area, turned around and came back.  It all looked good.

So I checked out an entrance ramp from Lover's Lane, and I found a deer looking confused.  She was walking between the street and the sound wall wondering where the woods went.

I pulled my car up beside her and said hello, and she looked at me.  It was a sweet moment.

Then I headed over to Morgan Park.  There's always broken glass there that needs to be picked up, and I wasn't disappointed tonight.

I had only picked up a couple hundred pieces when I saw the black clouds rolling in.  Uh oh!

I wanted to finish this area, because it's very dangerous, and I didn't want to come back.  Cars are inches from the sidewalk and there's no place to get over.  Most of the sidewalk is blocked off.

I have seen people with baby strollers walking down this sidewalk.  I don't think I'd ever do that.

I got that all cleaned up and headed for my car.

I didn't make it very far before the sky opened up and the rain fell out.

I found a little overhang and hid under that.  The rain was nasty, but the wind was horrible.  It was a very cold wind.

I wasn't soaked, but I was wet.  Since I was already wet, I decided to keep going.

The next spot I found that was a mess was right here, across the street from the park where children play.

Am I the only one who sees messes like this?

The leaves are still there, but the trash is all gone.
Then I worked my way to the corner and turned right.

There was garbage on this street.  And clothing.  And car parts.  And styrofoam food containers.  Ick!

And broken glass and needles.  I'm so glad I didn't quit when it started raining.

I only picked up 1,313 pieces tonight, but it was a very good night.

I'm at 960,000 pieces!!!  Getting closer to my goal!

  2. Wow, those messes were bad. I feel so sorry for the deer. We're taking over their habitat and now they need somewhere to be.
