WEST WILBETH ROAD FROM MAIN TO MANCHESTER ROAD

I am so proud of what I accomplished tonight in the rain!  Wow!

I headed to West Wilbeth Road and hoped to do all of it, from Main Street to Manchester Road.  It looked pretty clean driving by, so I set my timer for 3 hours and 22 minutes, and I hoped that was enough time to get it all done.

Even if it looked clean driving by, there's usually car parts and broken glass you can't see.

The right side is pretty open.  I found some broken glass, and a bottle waiting to be broken.
I found car parts in the bike lane.

Can you imagine running over stuff like that with your bike?  It could definitely cause an accident or a flat tire.

And there was a big bolt and a lock in the bike path.  So dangerous!  The speed limit is 35 mph through here, but nobody does 35.  Cars fly down this road, and today, I saw cars passing speeding cars!

If I liked to ride bikes, I don't think I would ever ride it down this road.  The towpath is nice, but I'd haul my bike there, not take a chance on Wilbeth Road.

I made it almost all the way to the end, but this part was so messy, I'll have to come back.

I filled one bag, found a sign and a bucket.  I left everything here, and I planned on coming back tomorrow.  I was running out of time, and I still had to walk all the way back, and the other side was really a mess!

I saw a dumpster across the street, and I thought maybe I could throw that bag in the dumpster and not have to come back.

Obviously, that wasn't going to happen!  What a mess!

This is the other side of West Wilbeth Road.

It was recently mowed, which helps, but it's all grown up, and there are homeless camps all through these woods.  It's very scary walking here, even when there is a bit of sidewalk to walk on.

I got it all cleaned up though, and I didn't look at my timer until I got back to my car.  I had 5 minutes and 36 seconds left!  Plenty of time to go pick up that bag of trash!

As I was driving to pick it up, I saw this big bucket that must have fallen off a truck.  I just cleaned this area, so I parked my car and walked back and got it.

As soon as I got home, I walked the dogs, and then took a shower.  The weedy part of this road is full of ticks.

The other night, after I hopped over the guard rail to avoid a semi truck on the entrance ramp to Route 8, I woke up in the middle of the night, and there was a tick on my neck!!!  Ick!  I raced to the bathroom and smashed it.  I couldn't sleep the rest of the night feeling like ticks were crawling all over me!

I try to be careful.  I don't walk in tall grass, and I use tick spray.  I brush my hair as soon as I get home, and take a shower, but one got past me.  Thank goodness it didn't bite me.

I picked up 2,343 pieces of trash tonight, and if I can keep up this pace, I will reach my goal on June 7.  I'll take a picture of the one millionth piece of trash.

You can celebrate with me by leaving a comment that day.  I never could have done this without you!  Thank you so much for your never ending encouragement!
