WHAT A GREAT NIGHT TO PICK UP TRASH!

 

One can of Red Bull and three forks!  Sounds like a party to me!  Who would do this?

I went back to South & Brown where I was picking up trash in the rain last Saturday.  It was a beautiful night for picking up trash. 

I headed south on Brown and thought I'd walk just one block and see how it looked.

Behind the parking lot of an Asian supermarket, I found almost a thousand pieces of trash along this fence.  Trash that had been there since the pandemic!  I know that because of all the masks.

Why are there areas that are just forgotten?  I found all kinds of crazy stuff . . . from a hiking boot to rusty cans of food to potato chip bags of every kind!  

Potato chip bags never biodegrade.  They still looked brand new.   I must have found 400 potato chip bags.

There was a broken windshield laying here.  I think that's what it was.  Hard to say.  I didn't mess with that.  I just picked up all the trash around it.

Still lots of glass, but no trash.  That means no rats and snakes.

I crossed the street and started heading north.  There was a van parked at the end of a driveway, and it had run over a toy of some kind.  I started picking up the pieces, and the owner of the van, who was on the phone, came racing out of her house to see what I was doing to her van!

I was doing something that nobody sees around this neighborhood.  I could go back and spend a week on one side street.  I cleaned what could be seen from Brown, and the rest can be dealt with another day.  I sure hope the people here see me and join in.  Picking up the garbage makes this area look and feel completely different.

Remember the driveway with all the trash at the end of it?  And the cement blocks with trash in every hole?  Somebody continued where I left off, and picked up all the fallen tree limbs.  So people are watching.

I picked up 1,592 pieces of trash tonight, and I think I know why my neighborhood is so clean.  Earth Day.  Everybody got excited and picked up trash the whole month of April (when it wasn't raining.)  And now they've moved on to other things.  I'm thinking by the end of May, it will be a mess again.
