I FOUND ALL KINDS OF CRAZY THINGS TONIGHT!
I received so many texts telling me they love reading my blog, so forget about the Sunday night thing. I'll find time to do it when I have interesting pictures. If I really want to document what I'm doing, I need to post stories every day anyway.
Tonight was really long. Picking up trash when an area is not really messy is SO HARD! Lots and lots of walking between pieces.
I decided to check out the football field on Wilbeth. It looked clean, and I thought checking was a waste of time, but look at the broken glass where the kids are playing! Who would do something like that? I'm so glad I checked.
I got it all picked up out of the grass.
I found a car part on the road. Who loses something this big and important looking and doesn't notice? After the football field, I went to the exit ramp southbound from Route 8 to Wilbeth Road. I noticed it was mess when I drove by earlier. Before I even started cleaning the ramp, I found a long nail on the road. I threw my glove down beside it so you can see how long it is.
What are nails this long used for?
This is what the exit ramp looked like. All the pieces were new, because I cleaned it a week or so ago. Picking up big pieces is fast and easy.It looked bad, but it didn't take very long. I cleaned both sides and picked up 350 pieces in about 15 minutes.I love the safety of the guard rail. I don't like everybody staring at me, but there's nothing I can do about that. I just keep telling myself that these people on the exit ramp are watching me, and they will start picking up trash too!
This was on the exit ramp. I had to lean over the guard rail to pick it up.Looks like the person who dumped their trash out ate their whole McDonald's meal while they were waiting for the light!
After I cleaned the football field and that whole block, I cleaned the exit ramp, and then I headed back to Arlington & Archwood. It was worse than before! But again, all the pieces were big, so it didn't take very long.I found a scooter thrown in the bushes. My guess is some kid took it from another kid, and when he got done with it, he tossed it in the bushes. I pulled it out and leaned it against this tree. When it was time to go home, I tried to figure out what to do with it.
I don't think scooters are expensive. I ended up putting it in my car. What should I do with it? I'm sure the kid who lost it won't know it's here if I take it back.
I found a glass in the grass. It was not broken. I cut some daisies from my flower garden and made a vase out of it. I love having live flowers in my house. And I found a real vase sitting by a dumpster. It was all dirty, but not broken. I was going to throw it in the dumpster, but I decided if I could get it home without breaking it, I would clean it up.It cleaned up really nice. I cut the daisies to put in this vase, but it was way too big. I don't know what I'll do with it. Maybe buy myself some flowers! Or buy some flowers for a friend and give it away. My house isn't big enough to keep all the stuff I find!
I picked up 2,135 pieces tonight. I was out 3 1/2 hours, so that's not very much. Tomorrow, I'm going to a neighborhood I haven't been to before. That should be fun!
I love that you repurposed trash that you found! The flowers are so pretty! Joyce
