I FIND DANGEROUS THINGS EVERY DAY!
The main reason I pick up trash is to find dangerous things and get them off the streets and sidewalks. Tonight, I outdid myself.
At the corner of Main & Thornton, I found two seven foot strips of wood with over a dozen nails protruding from each one! Oh my goodness! I wasn't sure how to pick them up, or how to get them a quarter mile to the dumpster.
They were right by the sidewalk in the grass just like this!
I managed to get them secured on my trash cart where the nails would be away from me, hopefully. I moved slowly, but I got them safely into the dumpster behind the Aldi Store. The sharp nails sticking out were about two inches long. If you stepped on that, the nails would go all the way through your foot! (I don't even want to think what would happen to a dog.)
I found lots and lots of cigarette butts on the extremely dry grass. How does the grass not catch on fire?I found somebody's lunch covered with mold and ants. So gross! And I found needle nosed pliers. What's with all the tools lately? I'm guessing these tools are used for "smash & grabs." Not much building going on around here.
After I finished around the Aldi Store, I crossed the street to the McDonald's and started picking up the trash shredded by the lawn mower. Most of this must have been a cardboard box. What an awful mess to pick up!
I got that all cleaned up and headed east on Thornton. I'll have to come back. There was too much for one day.Thornton was not mowed, and this is what it looked like. As bad as it looks, it's way easier to pick whole pieces of trash up than the shredded pieces.I picked up 2,744 pieces of trash today, and I'm tired. I'll be taking tomorrow off, because it's supposed to thunderstorm, but even if it doesn't, I'm tired.
As I drove home on Main Street, I went by several areas I cleaned in the last week. Still clean. Still beautiful.
What a great feeling!
Sure is an interesting conglomeration of stuff.
ReplyDeleteI can’t imagine why someone would leave those pieces of wood with nails in them. So dangerous! I am sure you saved someone or some animal from getting hurt. Thank you 😊 Joyce
