NOW I KNOW WHY I DON'T QUIT . . .
Every day, somebody asks me why I don't quit. I spend hours in the hot sun picking up the trash on a street, and a week later, it's all trashed up again.
Today, I realized why I don't quit. I'm looking for the dangerous things, like nails and knives and guns. I have to pick up trash to do that.
I found two bolts, two nails and a long screw on roads tonight. I may have saved someone's life.
Yesterday, I went to four areas, and I was beyond tired. Not doing that again. Tonight, I went to one area and took my time.I got out of my car and in the grass, I found all these glass liquor bottles. They would have been piles of broken glass tomorrow when the grass is mowed. Children play in this grass.
That's why I'm not giving up. What I'm doing matters to a lot of people.
I saw all kinds of interesting things tonight, because I wasn't in a hurry. I was talking to people and looking around. It was a fun night.I saw this dog tied to the back door. It was on the hot cement with no water. I felt sorry for him and said hello. I thought he was going to eat me alive.
So glad he was tied!
I found a rug that looks like it caught on fire. A children's rug? That's very scary.I dragged it to the dumpster. No clue why it was tossed onto the sidewalk. Lazy I guess.
Lazy people throw trash on the ground.
Lazy people drop their change and won't bend over to pick it up.
Lazy people throw glass bottles on the grass with no concern for children and pets.
(I'd hate to be labeled "lazy." Wouldn't you?)
I found a plate shattered, and yes, in the grass where children play. And near the dumpster I found a Sealy mattress being thrown away, and two liquor bottles laying on top of it.Yes, the dumpster was three feet away! (More lazy people.)
Also in the grass, I found this very unique liquor bottle. Never found one of these before. I wonder why it's the shape of a Christmas tree.(This one would have made a really BIG pile of broken glass tomorrow!)
I don't know why I went to this area tonight, but I'm so glad I did.
I found an old kitty cat looking up at this tree. When I followed the path of his eyes, I saw a cat in the tree, looking scared. I wonder what was going on there.(If you zoom in, the kitten in the tree has the sweetest face!)
And no, this isn't another dead cat. This is someone's hair!Throwing a glass bottle into the grass is pretty lazy, but throwing your hair into the grass is on a whole new level of laziness!
I picked up 1,953 pieces of trash at the first area and had time left to go to a second area.I was walking down Wilbeth Road, and I saw this mess that wasn't there when I drove by. The ice wasn't even melted from the cup! Do you think they saw me coming?
When I got to the intersection, a woman in a jeep started talking to me. I was counting pieces and didn't realize it at first. She said, "You're doing a fantastic job. I see you everywhere. Thank you much! Why?" I told her I was on Channel 3 last Tuesday and again on Sunday, and she can get on YouTube and if she puts in CHANNEL 3 and DEBBIE MILLER, she can see why.
Candace Hare did a great job with that story. It's so easy for me to suggest people to watch it. Saves a lot of time trying to explain.
I picked up 3,438 pieces of trash tonight, and it was a perfect night!
Seems like it was a good night.
