THE CONSTRUCTION ZONE ON WOOSTER ROAD WAS FUN!
Tonight, I started at the McDonald's on Wooster Road, and I headed west. The sun was in my face, so that part was not fun, but I knew coming back, the sun would be on my back.
I walked for one hour west, turned around and walked back, so I was out two hours and picked up 1,565 pieces of trash.
Wooster Road was very clean, almost no visible trash, but there was plenty to pick up. I just had to look for it. I found this spot by the post office that had been missed.
When areas are cleaned up, they look so fresh and new. I'll never get tired of seeing that. And I saw this fuzzy thing under a tall grass plant. I was hesitant, thinking it might be a dead animal of some kind. I don't pick up dead animals. It was a fuzzy sock! How funny is that?I cleaned all along the construction zone, and there were lots of bottles and cups placed around. They were not thrown. They were placed. And I found two screws on the brand new road! Cars were flying by with no idea that there was debris on the road that could cause an accident. My timer went off when I got to the Barberton Sports Complex. What a beautiful place that is! I've never been there before. It was very, very clean. But the real sight was the herd of deer across the street. There were at least 20 deer with a big ole' buck. I've never seen a muscular buck before. Look at his rack!
I was headed back to my car, and I heard a bunch of noise behind me. I didn't know what it was, but I moved over.It was a man pulling a wagon and pushing a shopping cart! And it was the biggest mess of stuff I ever saw. Wow! My guess he was homeless and this is all he had.
A little later, he pulled over to rest, and I talked to him. I asked him what all that stuff was. He said, "Clothes, I guess."
I told him he was very strong, and I walked on. I don't think he wanted to talk about his situation.
I was almost back to my car, and I saw a man carry a tiny bag of trash out to his trash can. He saw me picking up litter and he said, "What a nice thing to pick up trash!" I told him thank you, and then I saw all this broken glass right by his driveway! Now I know why he was so pleased to see me!Glass is very hard to pick up. Unless you have a broom, a dustpan and a trash grabber, it's scary. The first pile of glass I picked up was in February, 2023, when Henry cut his nose. I didn't know how to clean it up without getting cut.
Rule #1? Cut-resistant gloves.
Rule #2? Pick up the large pieces with the trash grabber and sweep up the rest.
Wooster Road was lots of fun.
Woooster Road looks like it will be finished soon. It’s going to be wonderful! I have seen the progress weekly and it is impressive. I see the deer in that field across from the baseball fields too. There is always a lot of them. They must feel safe there. You had another good night picking up trash!
ReplyDeleteDebbie, I love seeing your pictures and how nice the area looks after you have picked up the trash!
