WHAT A CRAZY WONDERFUL NIGHT!
What a crazy wonderful night! Whew! I had so much fun meeting people.
I started where I left off last Wednesday, at the little convenience store on Wooster Road, and I saw this trash can completely stuffed with trash. I sent a picture to the Mayor of Barberton. I'm sure it will be emptied tomorrow. They are that good.
The really interesting thing about this, there was no trash on the ground anywhere. Not one piece.
I was happy to see that.
About a block from the convenience store, I found this big vacant lot. It had a lot of trash ground into the dirt, like it had been there for years. Nobody really pays any attention to vacant lots, but they look so much better clean. When I got to the Mexican restaurant, all kinds of things happened. I saw a guy on a gorgeous motorcycle, unsure of what to do. He pulled over and was sitting in between the barrels. I watched to see what was going on. I wasn't sure if he maybe didn't know how to operate a motorcycle, or what was going on. He finally pulled into the parking lot. There were big rocks all around the restaurant, and there was trash hidden in them. I cleaned the side and the back, and the guy on the motorcycle was there with two police cruisers, and he was getting a sobriety test!
I cleaned the trash and cigarette butts all around them, and I'm sure they thought I was being super nosy, but I was just picking up trash. I had no idea that he was impaired! So glad the police are doing their job. It was obvious he could not drive.
My timer went off when I was at the Mexican restaurant, so I crossed the street to work on the other side, and I saw the house that was sent to me by my Facebook friends! There was a high speed chase last Thursday night, and the guy was going really fast through this construction zone with the police behind him. He hit something and became airborne and ended up turned around in this guy's front yard. A neighbor saw the entire thing.
But here's the really super scary part . . . had I gone out like I planned, at exactly 6:00, I would have been right here! Right on this sidewalk where the accident happened! OMG! I don't know why I didn't go out, but I sure am glad I didn't.
Two houses over from where the accident happened, I found accident debris that must have been missed. Wow!I was headed back to my car, and at the next street, I saw a bolt and these nails in the road. A woman with her family was coming out, and she yelled, "Thank you so much!" as she waited at the stop sign. I walked over and showed her what I just picked up, where her car tires were going to be!Can you imagine how good I felt?
And it gets better!
At the next street, I found a dumpster and emptied my bag. There were three adorable little kids playing in that yard. They came running to me with trash to put in my bucket. They had so many questions!"Why are you picking up other people's trash?" "Can I try to pick up stuff with your trash grabber?" "Do you want to watch me do a cheer?" "Thank you for cleaning up our yard!"
I told them, "I love picking up trash, because it looks so nice when it's clean." I told them, "You can each have a turn," and they did. I watched them do a cheer. And then I clapped.
I love the little kids. Did I make an impression on them? I know I did.
I finished cleaning their yard, and I found this fuzzy thing. I picked it up and saw it was a naked Barbie doll, and put it back. Then I met the woman who witnessed the accident. I guess a car in front of the speeding car swerved over through the barrels and landed in this woman's yard. Thank goodness he did! He would have gotten run over. She was busy working on the landscaping in front of her house.
Then I met a guy who was a retired school teacher, retired at 42! He said, "We could afford to retire, because we didn't have any children." I just laughed. How true is that? His house and yard were manicured and could be in a magazine. He thanked me for picking up trash in Barberton. I told him I'm going to clean every street, and he just smiled.
Today was as good as it gets. I picked up 1,258 pieces of trash in two hours.
It was a good evening. And nice people.
