WHAT A NICE SURPRISE!!!

Today, I wanted to clean the Sports Complex.  This is a wonderful place just two miles from my house that has soccer fields, tennis courts, baseball diamonds, basketball courts, and Frisbee golf.  I take Henry & Stella there every day, and I've noticed litter in the grass.

There is a lovely paved walking trail, about a mile, around the outside.  I've seen this guy walking SIX dogs!  Today, I was lucky enough to meet him!  Anybody who can love six dogs has to be a great person, right?

He happens to own three restaurants in town, including the Monkey Town Brewery, my favorite restaurant!  He was so much fun to talk to.  And the next time I see him, he said it's okay to let my dogs play with his!  How great is that!

The massive sports complex is very, very clean.  They need more trash cans, but otherwise, it's really nice.  I picked up 567 pieces of trash in two hours.  For the size of this place, that's incredible.

I found mostly water bottles, water bottle caps, straws, cigarette butts and band aids.

I did find some coins!  They were ground into the dirt.

I don't find much change in Dayton, because there's so little trash.  If there was money laying on the ground, somebody would see it here.

I did find this great big piece of cardboard.  It looked pretty silly in my trash cart, but I managed to pick it up and throw it away.
Now the Sports Complex is completely clean.  I walked around all the fences, up and down the fields, and around the parking lots.

I talked to a lot of people walking on the paved trail.  I hope they think about picking up litter as they walk around.  I'm kinda thinking they will.  If I can do it, so can they!

I stopped by Main Street Dayton this morning to speak to the director, and I asked her how the City of Dayton stays so clean.  She said, "We don't have any organized cleanups.  The people who live here care about their community, and they keep it clean."

Imagine that.
